Where Nature Meets Science
Inside this blog, we explore the ingredients behind our formulas, the biology that supports them, and the holistic principles that guide our work. From mineral science and oral ecology to botanical synergy and whole-body balance, we break down the research, philosophy, and formulation logic behind every product.
Where Nature Meets Science
What Actually Causes Tooth Decay (Hint: It’s Not Sugar Alone)
What causes tooth decay? It’s not sugar alone. Learn how acid, pH balance, and remineralization determine enamel health—and how to protect your teeth naturally.
Why Teeth Don’t Remineralize in a Disrupted Mouth
Teeth don’t remineralize in a disrupted mouth because remineralization depends on saliva flow, mineral availability, and balanced oral pH. When the mouth becomes chronically acidic or dry—often due to synthetic surfactants, alcohol-based mouthwash, artificial sweeteners, or frequent acid exposure—the natural exchange of calcium and phosphate slows down.
Remineralization is not a coating or cosmetic effect. It is a chemical process that only occurs in a neutral to slightly alkaline environment. Supporting saliva, maintaining pH balance, and avoiding disruptive oral care products are essential for protecting enamel and preventing tooth decay naturally.
Uncle Harry's Remineralization System for Tooth Enamel
A poor diet and digestion leads to slightly acidic saliva and an environment which accelerates the demineralization of enamel and contributes to enamel erosion and tooth decay. Using the potent knowledge of correct dietary habits, Uncle Harry has developed a nutritional system that will effectively create a favorable body chemistry for remineralization of tooth enamel. After all, a good diet and eating habits are essential for maintaining healthy teeth, gums, and bones.
REMINERALIZATION SYSTEM FOR TOOTH ENAMEL
A poor diet and digestion leads to slightly acid saliva and an environment which accelerates the demineralization of enamel. Healthy saliva is neutral or slightly alkaline, and such an environment is not conducive for harmful bacteria which need an acid medium to do damage. Indications of overeating and poor digestion include dry mouth and a lack of saliva which leave the mouth unprotected and thus more prone to tooth decay.
Tooth enamel is almost entirely composed of calcium phosphate (Ca5 (PO4)3 OH). Mineralization is the chemical process of enamel formation, a combination of calcium, phosphate, and hydroxyl ions. The reverse process is called demineralization or erosion of the enamel, consisting of the breaking up of calcium phosphate into calcium, phosphate, and hydroxyl ions.
DEMINERALIZATION
Ca5 (PO4)3 OH ⇔ 5Ca+2 +3(PO)-3 +OH-1
MINERALIZATION
An acidic medium will provide hydrogen ions, which will combine with hydroxyl ions and this will favor the process of demineralization. An alkaline medium will provide hydroxyl ions and will favor the process of mineralization. Saliva will provide just the kind of medium which will favor the process of mineralization, both on account of its neutral or slightly alkaline character and the calcium and phosphate ions it can provide.
It is generally thought that the erosion of tooth enamel is permanent, that once it's gone it's lost forever. The hard enamel and the dentine covering the tooth may appear inert, but this is a misconception. Living cells have built these structures so when the body is in need of calcium, demineralization takes place. This means that during calcium deficiency, the body can rob the enamel and dentine, as well as bones, of calcium. If demineralization is possible during calcium deficiency, it is reasonable to assume that remineralization can take place when there is an adequate supply of calcium and other favorable conditions. A good diet and eating habits are essential for maintaining healthy teeth, gums, and bones.
There are sound physiological reasons for eating foods in compatible combinations. In other words, mixing certain foods in the digestive system will cause distress. The principles of food combining are dictated by digestive chemistry because different foods are digested differently. Starchy foods require an alkaline digestive medium which is supplied initially in the mouth by the enzyme pitalin whereas protein foods require an acid medium for digestion –hydrochloric acid.
Acids and bases (alkalis) neutralize each other. If you eat a starch with a protein, digestion is impaired or completely arrested. The undigested food mass can cause various kinds of digestive disorders since undigested food becomes soil for bacteria which ferment and decompose it. Its by-products are poisonous, one of which - alcohol - is a narcotic that destroys or inhibits nerve function. It plays havoc with nerves of the digestive tract, suspending their vital action such that constipation may well be the result.
Following are some simple rules of diet set forth by Dr. Herbert M. Shelton, a modern proponent of healthy eating habits, to help maintain the body with sufficient nutrients:
Eat acids and starches at separate meals.
Eat protein food and carbohydrates at separate meals.
Eat proteins and acids at separate meals.
Eat fats and proteins at separate meals.
Eat sugars and proteins at separate meals.
To summarize the above rules in a general dietary plan we suggest the following:
Eat one acid fruit or sweet fruit meal once a day. (I.e. Acid fruits include apples, grapes, pineapples, oranges, etc. Sweet fruits include bananas, mangoes, papayas, etc.)
Eat one protein and vegetable meal per day. (I.e. tofu, nuts, dry beans, cooked beans, soy beans, cheese, olives, milk products, avocados and all green vegetables including sprouts, broccoli, zucchini, etc)
Eat one starch meal per day. (I.e. brown rice, bread, all cereal grains, potatoes, dry peas, pumpkin, dates, raisins, bananas combined with any fat, such as butter or vegetable or nut oils)
(Optional) Drink one cup of hot milk before bed.

Jojoba Cream, Jojoba Oil, & Jojoba Face Tonic Spray
A customer called me recently to ask about Uncle Harry's Jojoba Cream. She was using the product and wanted to know if she could use it daily without any complications. She applies it on her face, body, and even on her hair. She insisted that her hair was unruly, dry curly hair until she began to use Uncle Harry's Jojoba Cream. Now many of her friends stop her and ask her what she is using on her hair as it is glowing with vitality. She was concerned, however, because she uses the Jojoba Face Cream so much and wanted to know if it was safe.
I reassured her that Uncle Harry's Jojoba Cream is a remarkable new discovery. The natural jojoba oil has been altered in much the same way as vegetable oil is altered by the soap making process to obtain a rich, non greasy, stable cream consistency. The end result is a neutral cream that is almost impossible to go rancid. The cream penetrates the skin very quickly and holds in moisture for up to eight hours. This leaves the skin protected with its natural hydration for most of the day. There are no preservatives or any other ingredients. This is truly remarkable for a jojoba derived cream with a single ingredient.
If you are a person who is sensitive to preservatives and all kinds of artificial additives in creams, then Uncle Harry's Jojoba Cream is your dream come true. It is fragrance free and contains only one ingredient, jojoba oil (esters). It will not go rancid. It is not greasy nor will it leave a film on the surface of your skin. It will protect your skin all day. The Jojoba Cream can also be used on the entire body, it is an excellent hair conditioner and moisturizer.
Along with the Jojoba Cream, Uncle Harry's offers Jojoba Oil and Jojoba Face Tonic Spray. Uncle Harry's Jojoba Face Tonic Spray will naturally tighten and firm skin. It is made with colloidal silver water, aloe vera gel, grapefruit seed extract, organic cold-pressed, golden jojoba oil, and natural essential oils of palmarosa, cypress and sandalwood.
Uncle Harry's Story
Dear Friends,
I'm Uncle Harry and I still have my teeth. It hasn't been easy to keep'em. My dentist told me some years ago that I wouldn't have one tooth left in my mouth. My gums were infected. Then he told me I'd have to spend $10,000 to save them or pull them all out. I felt too young (44) to lose my teeth and spend the rest of my life with dentures. Then I started to look around for a natural cure to save my teeth and gums.
My dentist began to speak more like a friend when I told him I didn't have the money to save my teeth nor did I want to have them pulled out. He recommended a thorough cleaning by a periodontist. He said, “If the gums heal and tighten up after the cleaning, then you might have a chance.” But he was doubtful. So was I. The periodontist cleaned my teeth (and almost killed me with the pain and discomfort). He tore my gums apart like a backhoe tearing up a street. I survived. I was determined to do something, anything "affordable" to save my teeth.
I searched far and wide for natural remedies. I found a "teacher" who taught me about this world and the other world. I'm interested in both because we have to live in this world with savvy and hope to go somewhere better. Back to my teeth. The teacher gave me a "recipe" used by the "old timers" in England, who found it in India. I was excited about a natural cure to save my teeth.
I made sure to get the best and purest ingredients such as sea salt, chalk, mustard seed powder and natural oils like peppermint, eucalyptus, etc. and made it. When I first used Uncle Harry's I felt like Christmas bells were ringing in my mouth. The next time I saw the dentist, he said: "Hey, I don't know what you're doing but keep on doing it!"
I'm happy to say my teeth and gums are fine now. I'm sure Uncle Harry's Tooth Powder can help you too.
Bad Teeth and Heart Disease
The first-ever study to compare levels of oral bacteria with blood vessel thickness provides the strongest evidence yet that gum disease and clogged arteries are closely connected.
"People in the study with the highest levels of specific oral bugs also had the highest levels of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries)," said lead researcher Dr. Moise Desvarieux, an assistant professor of epidemiology at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City.
Dental and cardiovascular researchers have long suspected that chronic periodontal infection can also trigger or exacerbate atherosclerosis.
"Chronic infection puts a stress on our body's response system, and the way the body responds to that infection is by sending different elements through the bloodstream" explained Dr. Ronald Inge, associate executive director of the Division of Dental Practice at the American Dental Association. He explained that steady, high levels of these inflammatory compounds spur a gradual thickening of artery walls throughout the body.
BRUSH AND FLOSS TWICE A DAY TO HELP KEEP THE DOCTOR AWAY.
“Remember, gum disease is not like a bout of the flu, which is of relatively short duration,” Inge said. “Periodontal disease is a long-term infection, and if it's not treated - if that bacteria isn't eliminated or at least reduced - it can continue to cause this slow reaction in the body that builds up over time.”
Previous studies had compared indirect markers of periodontal disease (such as loose gums or tooth loss) to atherosclerosis, and found close correlations. But Desvarieux's study of nearly 660 elderly individuals is the first to count and categorize specific populations of oral bacteria, then compare that data to ultrasound measurements of arterial thickness. In the study, the Columbia team used ultrasound to measure atherosclerosis of the carotid arteries, which supply blood to the brain.
The researchers found that participants with higher levels of oral bacteria also tended to have thicker, more narrowed carotid arteries. What's more, this association was only found with oral bacteria known to cause gum disease. "That's important," Desvarieux said, "because if all bugs in the mouth were related to carotid atherosclerosis, one might say 'Oh well, these people have poor oral hygiene, maybe they have poor health in general." The finding that only bacteria linked to gum disease are associated with atherosclerosis seems to rule out that explanation, he said. Inge said there are easy, simple ways to boost gum - and perhaps, arterial health.
"First, have a complete oral exam to help diagnose the disease," he said. Once a diagnosis is made, a manual deep cleaning of the gums--something specialists call "scaling and root planning" - is usually the next step. "That's usually followed by the administration of local antibiotics, to help reduce or eliminate bacteria," Inge said. At-home care is key to keeping gum infection at bay, he added. "Brush and floss your teeth twice a day, of course," he said. "But the biggest factor is to not allow food or plaque to remain in your mouth without brushing. Allowing small amounts of food to build up creates a 'fortress' for bacteria to live in. At some point, even your brushing won't be able to affect that."
